“Βio-chips for the Diagnosis and Confrontation of Neurodegenerative diseases with focus on Parkinson -ΒΙΟDIANEA”, General Secretariat for Research and Technology (GSRT) funded project (T1EDK-05029) – http://biodianea.gr
The aim of the proposed project is the industrial research and development of a Bio-chip with further specialization in the use for the diagnosis and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases with emphasis on Parkinson’s disease.
Bio-chips are small laboratories that can perform hundreds of concurrent biochemical reactions, allowing researchers quickly to have a large number of biological analysers from disease diagnosis to detecting health-conscious agents.
In this project Bio-chips will be combined with complementary sensor platforms used to monitor/measure biometrical parameters (e.g. pulse, breath rate, oxygen in blood, electrocardiogram signals, blood pressure, muscle electromyography signals etc), data processing and decision support systems with machine learning capabilities, to implement an integrated system to detect the risk of the disease and / or its early diagnosis. This system will be a powerful aid to the specialists (doctors) in fighting the disease and also to monitor its progression. The project includes experimental and pilot operation for the highest degree of operational readiness and concludes with a feasibility study in order to identify further steps (e.g. commercial exploitation potential).
