Associate Professor Panagiotis Vlamos, director of the Bioinformatics and Human Physiology Laboratory is going to participate to a speech organised by the Greek Pharmaceutical Association on the 24-25 of November in Athens. Questions like: How the search and evaluation of scientific information obtained? What are the "tools" that make it up to a new comprehensive study? are going to be answered in a speech that many Greek scientists are going to give a talk. Read more
More than 2.5 billion gigabytes of digital data is generated every day, according to a report by IBM in 2012[i]. This includes emails, text messages, voice and video data and other types of digital information. Keeping this information secure not only costs companies and governments billions every year, it also relies on talent, determination and supercomputers. That’s the problem Dr. Ilias Kotsireas, a professor with the Department of Physics and Computer Science, Wilfrid Laurier University, is working on for his SOSCIP project. SOSCIP is a research and development consortium that pairs academic and industry researchers with advanced computing tools to fuel Canadian innovation. Read more
Master of Science in Bioinformatics and Neuroinformatics. Master of Science (M.Sc) entitled "Bioinformatics and Neuroinformatics" is issued by the Faculty of Informatics of the Ionian University for the academic year 2016-2017. The M.Sc program objectives are "Bioinformatics and Computational Biology" and "Neuroinformatics and Computational Neuroscience". This is the first M.Sc program in Greece within these objectives. Applications deadline is June 30, 2016 and the program duration is three (3) semesters.
The Laboratory of Bioinformatics and Human Electrophysiology (BiHeLab) of the Ionian University and the Department of Primary Education of Aegean University are organizing a summer school entitled: "Neuroscience in Mathematical Education" in June 30 to July 04, in Rodes .
"2nd World Congress on Genetics, Geriatrics and Neurogenerative Diseases Research" 20-23 October, 2016
The 2nd World Congress "GeNeDis" 2016 on "Geriatrics and Neurodegenerative Diseases Research" which will be held in Sparta (one of the most important Greek city-states throughout the Archaic and Classical periods), Greece, from 20 to 23 of October 2016.
For the second time three of the most modern and popular scientific areas are brought together in a conference in Greece, at the 2nd World Congress on Genetics, Geriatrics and Neurodegenerative disease research.
BiHeLab Laboratory of Ionian University and CARGO Research Group of Wilfrid Laurier University, Ontario, Canada partnership is integrated within an innovative and transcontinental project for neurodegenerative diseases. In this context, millions of clinical data are gathered into personal patient files (designed by BiheLab Laboratory under the supervision of Associate Professor, Panagiotis Vlamos) in order to be consolidated and managed. With the use of an integrated information system (designed by CARGO Research Group, under the supervision of Professor Elias Kotsireas) Data Mining algorithms integrated with Big Data analysis, these clinical data are processed. A tribute article was released on the online newspaper www.imerisia.gr about the innovative research projects of the Associate Professor Panagiotis Vlamos, director of the Bioinformatics and Human Physiology Laboratory and his research team. BiheLab is considered to be unique in Europe in terms of equipment, infrastructure, and in reference the interdisciplinary research team composition and organization. Bioinformatics and Human Physiology Laboratory research is mainly focused to neurological disorders and their correlation with the subcellular bioenergy measurements. Read more
The InnoPolis Innovation and Culture Center and the Laboratory of Bioinformatics and Human Electrophysiology (BiHeLab) of the Ionian University are organizing a seminar entitled: "Local Workshop on Cross Fertilization & Dissemination" within the project AdriHealthMob. in Tuesday, February 23 in Corfu.
The BiHeLab is the only partner during the last year in the IPA Adriatic program for neurodegenaretive diseases. The AdriHealthMob project includes 15 partners from eight countries in order to create an interoperable integrated electronic system, with the use of innovative Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in the Adriatic area. The project objective is to improve the mobility of citizens (residents / tourists / consumers / patients) and enhance their access to health care services, through an effective and efficient transport system.
